Danny boy

http://www.washingtoncitypaper.com/articles/40063/the-cranky-redskins-fans-guide-to-dan-snyder/

Above is an interesting article.  It pretty much summarizes the Dan Snyder era as the Washington Redskins owner in a dictionary format.  How can you like this guy or support anything offered by this guy after reading that.  It makes me sick just reading about it.  The guy destroyed this once proud franchise.  I am glad I am not a Redskins fan any more through this era.  Believe me I was a die hard Redskins Fan growing up.  During his era, my support grew less and less every year, until now where it is zero.  I cannot support a team owned by this guy.  Now Danny boy is suing the city paper and calling for the firing of the person who wrote the article.  He is citing defamation.  I just dont see the defamation here.  All that is written is fact.  Is it that hes embarrased of what has transpired in his era?  Its just bullying in my opinion.  The guy trys to set the media up and control what we hear about the team by buying out the local media outlets and installing his own people. ESPN 980, Larry Micheal and the firing of Frank Herzog.

This point in the article was probably the most moving:

"American Enterprise Institute: Conservative thinktank that summed up Snyder’s football operation as a “leading exemplar of this tendency toward irrationality” in a 2006 report. Kevin Hassett, director of economic policy studies at AEI, cited Snyder for running a “seriously mismanaged” operation. “I used the Redskins because they’re the most frightening example of a team that hadn’t thought through the simple economics of pro football,” Hassett said at the time. “The problems of running a pro football team are right out of the textbooks: With the salary cap, everybody’s got the same amount of money to spend, so let’s see what you’re going to do with your money. The big signing is counter to the economics of pro football. Over time, [Snyder is] spending the same amount of money as everybody else, but he’s spending it irrationally. I think they’re years away from correcting the mistakes they’ve made.”"

I just cant believe he wasnts to now sue for bringing out facts.  Pathetic.  I am emailing myself this article because it will probably be pulled from the paper's website.  Another good thing to check out is chad dukes rant on youtube.  That summarizes a lot as well.   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ePAevL_cEaA

1.5 trillion dollar deficit

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/41272983/ns/politics-more_politics/

The US budget deficit is set to hit 1.5 trillion dollars.   That is insane.  The US government will borrow more money and increase the gross national debt which is already at 14 trillion dollars.  Thankfully there is a legal cap at 14.3 trillion dollars ( $14,300,000,000,000) so they cant really increase it more.  The budget deficit was increased by $400 billion dollars by extending tax cuts for the higher income folks, extending umemployment benefits, and a payroll tax decrease.  I feel like extending tax cuts for the rich/business owners was something that should not have been done.  I know they can argue that they need the extra money to help stimulate business, and generate money and then in turn hire more people.  But in the past two years this hasnt happened.  Companies are still not hiring enough and I dont think they will start hiring siginificantly more, anytime soon.  We are still in a recession or in the tail end of a recession at best and every company is going to be very cautious about hiring and expanding at this point in the game so that they dont suffer the same kinds of losses that they faced in the brunt of the recession.  Another point one could argue is that why should we punish people who are successfull/rich, more by taxing them more.  It would be like punishing them for using their brain and skills and ingenuity, with higher tax penalty.  I agree with that.  But it was a "tax cut" that was extended.  During the Bush era, the tax cut was offered as a temporary break from their normal taxes.  I think its now time to go back to the "normal" and tax them at their normal rate.  The country needs it. Neither party is willing to budge on this which is why we are in this mess.  All we keep getting is a compromise between two party ideals that is not good for the people.  I support President Obama.  He is trying.   He has said numerously that both parties need to work together.  I think the president needs to be a little more hard nosed and stand his ground against people that want to look after their own interests rather than the people of this country.

Something needs to be done.  Increasing the deficit and debt is not going to get this country back on track.  We have to face the fact that things are different now.  They must be done differently now than they were before the recession.  Some of the government programs and luxuries that were there before need to be eliminated or put on hold.  Aid to other countries needs to be put on hold as well.  Government spending needs to be limited, and the Government needs to find a way to generate income and not anymore debt.

PACKERS HEADED TO THE SUPERBOWL!!

The Green Bay Packers are going to the Superbowl!  I have been waiting for this moment since the last drive of the 1997 season when the Packers lost to the Broncos in San Diego at Superbowl 32.  That was heart breaking.  After many tries and many season ending interceptions from Brett Favre in the playoffs, my team is finally going to the big game!  I am soo excited for this! The 2010 NFC championship game is two days old now and I still cant believe it.  It probably wont hit me until I actually see them take the field on Feb 6.

The Packers beat the Bears to earn their fifth trip to the Superbowl.  Aaron Rodgers was hot early, then cooled off in the second half.  The defense finished the Bears off in front of their home crowd.  Cutler was injured at some point in the second quarter and decided he shouldnt play.  The Bears sent in Todd Collins who was completly ineffective.  The third string was then brought in.  Hanie.  He sparked the Bears with some life and made it a game.  The Bears actually had a chance to tie it in the final minute.  But the Packers defense forced the inexperienced quarterback to throw a bad pass and an interception.  Dom Capers did an amazing job against that Bears offense.  Devin Hester was a non factor.  Right now, The Packers are the best team in the NFC.  Hands down.  They beat the third seed Eagles in Philly, the first seed Falcons in Atlanta, and the second seed Bears in Chicago.  They are firing on all cylinders and I expect them to give the Steelers all they can handle.  This should be a great superbowl.

LETS GO PACK GO!

Championship weekend.

Green Bay Packers at Chicago Bears.

NY Jets at Pittsburgh Steelers.

As of this moment the Packers are favorites by 3.5 and the Steelers are favorites by 3.5.

The regular season meetings:

Week 3: Packers 17 Bears 20 @ Chicago

Week 17: Packers 10 Bearrs 3 @ Green Bay

Week 15: Jets 22 Steelers 17 @ Pittsburgh

The Packers are a better team than the week 3 one that came out on the field.  They have battled injuries all year and have come out on top.  Aaron Rodgers is playing great football.  He reminds me of a young Brett Favre.  The Bears are a far better team than we saw during the beginning to first half of the season.  Cutler's mistakes are down and the defense is playing well.  Their special teams is a serious threat and has really helped the offense.  They have also been winning games against other great teams.  Their improvement can be seen in their performance last week when they beat the Seattle Seahawks who they lost to earlier in the year.  The Packers beat the best ranked team in the NFC last week after losing to them during the season.  Both teams grew this season.  They seem to have found themselves during the course of the season.  These are currently the two best teams in the NFC and it should be one great game.  The same can be said about the Jets vs Steelers.  The Jets are very very very good when they want to be.  They have beaten Peyton Manning and Tom Brady (two hall of fame first ballot qbs) back to back.  That is simply amazing.  They now have a chance to add Rothlisberger and the Steelers to that list.  They will have knocked off the three best AFC teams in the last decade and cement themselves as the elite.

Now for the games:

Packers @ Bears - I think the Packers will win.  Their defense is strong and will stop the Bears offense. They are aggressive and will get after a Cutler.  Cutler is mistake prone and the Packers defense is a magnet for the ball.  Advantage Packers defense.  The Packers offense will focus on the passing game and just because they dont have an effective rushing attack doesnt mean they wont continue to try to run the ball.  It still forces the defense to play honest.  Which should open things up.  The Bears play a Tampa 2 scheme which gives up underneath plays and keeps the game in front of the them not letting anything deep.  The Packers and Aaron Rodgers do an excellent job of playing the mid range passing game and running timing routes.  The key will be if Aaron Rodgers can buy time to extend plays long enough for the Bears zone defense to break down and then complete passes deep.  He needs to be patient and take what the defense gives him.  I think he will be able to do that.  Hes a fairly mobile QB and doesnt make too many mistakes which shows that he is smart with the ball.  If he just does that, the Packers should roll.  Advantage Packers.  As for special teams, the Bears are clearly better.  Deven Hester is supremely dangerous and if he continues to get the Bears offense great field position, itll be a tough day for the Packers defense.  They must contain him if they want to win.  If they can do that, the Packers have a great shot at winning.  In the end I predict Packers will win 23-20.

Jets @ Steelers

I dont know these two teams as well as the Packers and Bears.  But the Steelers are a tough team to beat.  I think they have been beaten up by the Ravens last week.  Rex Ryan knows the Steelers really well from his days in Baltimore, and the Jets are playing their best football after dispatching two of the top teams in the AFC.  You can never couth Big Ben out.  It could go either way. I strongly believe that both teams are matched very well.  If they played eachother 50 times, the winning percentage for each of them would around 50% .  It just depends on how the game plays out.  How the scenarios during the game unfold.  What I mean is that I dont think either team is better than the other.  Its just going to be the luck of the draw.  A dropped pass, a batted ball, that could prevent a third down conversion leading to the other team scoring on the next drive.  Something that wouldnt happen 9/10 times on a certain play or a set of plays might be the difference.  As long as both teams come to play, it should be close.  The Steelers will be there to play, will the Jets?  I think it will be 27-23 Jets.

FBI arrest more than 100 mobsters

Its pretty crazy to think that this still goes on.  That mobsters still actually exist and still racketeer, extort, and murder.  A mobster seems like a fantasy character, like a pirate or an alien to me.  You watch them in movies and even though some of the characters are so glorified that they seem fictional, like in Goodfellas, or Casino, they were real.  But its hard to imagine that these people were real because of how they are portrayed in movies.  You have to think that in reality the mob life isnt as rewarding and successfull as TV or movies depict.    Apparently there are hundreds out there.  These are the ones that got caught.  From the article it just seems like they did a random sweep.  Now the tough part is proving they did what they are accused of doing.  I just think its going to be hard for the authorities to pin point crimes on each and every mobster they captured.   Most of them will be set free.  But maybe that was the intent.  To scare them a bit.   To let them know that they are being watched.

Mike Florio apologizes to Aaron Rodgers and Packer Fans

I was on Profootballtalk.com and they had an article of how Aaron Rodgers snubbed some fans that had went to the airport to see the Packers off.
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/01/16/aaron-rodgers-has-a-lot-to-learn-about-where-his-money-comes-from/
There is a video showing this but I havent seen it.  Apparently in the group, there was a fan there that has terminal cancer.  Aaron Rodgers just continued to walk by the group of fans with his earbuds in his ear.  I dont know what the big deal is here. I mean if he stopped to sign autographs everywhere he went, hed never get anywhere.  Besides, the lady with cancer that he "snubbed" at that moment has already met Rodgers a few times and has already got his autograph and time before. He's already done enough to appreciate her support.  He didnt single her out, he walked past the whole group.  He even said that he didnt see her.  At some point youve got to wonder if these people have nothing better to do than critisize athletes that are in the spotlight at the moment.  I am sure worse has happened before, and I am sure that Aaron Rodgers himself has done worse.  I am sure other athletes have done far worse but for some reason this story pops up and every move of the Packers star QB is going to be examined and scrutinized right before the game Sunday.  Its like we expect them to act in a perfect way every time and that perfect way is what we define as perfect (as if Aaron Rodgers can go into mine or Mike Florio's mind and pick out how we think they should act).  They are only human.  Even though on the football field, Rodgers sometimes displays superhero traits.

So Mike Florio has posted an apology to Aaron Rodgers and the Packer fans for his original post where he blasts Aaron Rodgers.
I do respect that.  Its rare that you see an honest apology like that.  Thats why I do pay attention to Mike Florio of Profootballtalk.

First things first

Go Green Bay Packers! I hope they beat the Chicago Bears this weekend in the NFC Championship game.  The Packers are favorites but the Bears are a dangerous team.  This one could go either way.  Not to mention Brett Favre has said that the Packers will win it all and he thinks they are the best team.  This past season, Favre had played against three of the four teams left.
